How to Install Rain Bird Sprinklers

Rain Bird sprinklers are designed to install quickly and easily, requiring only a few tools to do the job right. Rain Bird is one of the oldest manufacturers of sprinklers and other irrigation equipment, which can be used on both residential and commercial properties. Instructions

    • 1

Dig up the sprinkler head that you want to replace with a Rain Bird sprinkler. If you are working with new construction, make sure the supply line is exposed and accessible.

    • 2

Wrap both ends of a sprinkler riser with PTFE plumber's tape. One wrap around the pipe threads is enough to lubricate the connection point. Rain Bird sprinklers often require the use of a 1/2-inch riser. Other brands of sprinklers require 3/4-inch risers, so you may need to install a 3/4-inch to 1/2-inch bushing before installing the Rain Bird riser.

    • 3

Set one end of the riser into the supply line and turn it clockwise by hand until tight.

    • 4

Set the Rain Bird sprinkler on top of the other end of the riser and turn the sprinkler clockwise by hand until tight. Make sure the nozzle is pointed in the direction that you want the water to spray. Rain Bird sprinklers usually do not require the use of a special tool to adjust the nozzle once installed in the ground. Use your hand to turn the nozzle assembly toward the area you want to water.

    • 5

Fill the area around the sprinkler body with dirt, stepping on the dirt gently to compact the soil until flush with the surrounding ground.
