Unplug the current irrigation timer from its power source. Open the current timer panel to reveal the irrigation wiring terminals. Gently pull each wire from its terminal until all irrigation wires have been removed.
Find the screws that hold the irrigation timer in place against the wall, insert a flat or Phillips screwdriver into the screws and twist them counterclockwise to remove them. Remove the irrigation timer from the wall.
Place the 24-volt sprinkler timer against the wall where you would like to mount it. Confirm that the timer power cord is within reach of the power source at this location.
Open the front panel of the 24-volt sprinkler timer and find the mounting holes. If you have trouble finding them, refer to the instruction manual. Use a screwdriver or a drill to screw the supplied screws into the mounting holes until the unit is secure. If you plan to mount the new timer onto drywall, use anchors.
Gather the color-coded irrigation wires that were plugged into the previous timer terminals. Confirm that the same color-coded wires are selected, one to represent each connected valve, if there are more irrigation wires than valves. Confirm that each wire tip is stripped at least 1/2 inch.
Insert the white wire into the "Common" terminal. Insert the colored wires into their designated terminal numbers. For instance, if you have an orange irrigation wire and you know the orange wire is connected to the second valve, insert the orange wire into the second station terminal. Close the terminal panel of the 24-volt sprinkler timer.
Plug the 24-volt unit into a power source and test it.
