How to Troubleshoot Lawn Irrigation

Lawn irrigation is an important part of maintaining a healthy lawn, as your property's lawn requires one inch of water per week to remain healthy. Sprinkler systems aid in maintaining the lawn's condition, but if your grass seems dull rather than springy and a vibrant green you may have a problem with your sprinklers. Once fixed, the health of your lawn should improve within one week of continuous treatment.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the sprinkler system's shutoff valve counter-clockwise, or turn the flow control counter-clockwise. If the system's shutoff valve is not operating at full capacity, or if the flow control is not completely opened the sprinkler won't move properly.

    • 2

Check the radius adjustment screw. The radius adjustment screw that is turned clockwise prevents water from spraying from the sprinkler. Turn the radius adjustment screw counter-clockwise to turn it on.

    • 3

Unscrew the sprinkler's nozzle, and wipe it clean to clear out debris that may be preventing water from properly flowing through to the sprinkler. Dirt or buildup on the nozzle also causes gaps in the water's spray pattern, which results in uneven lawn watering.

    • 4

Turn the faucet's handle clockwise to increase its water pressure. A higher water pressure improves the sprinkler's rotation.

    • 5

Replace the spray if there is a gap or no water comes out of the sprinkler.
