How to Get Rid of Grubs Near My Water Well

Finding a few grubs lurking in the ground around your water well is not a big deal. In fact, your lawn is perfectly equipped to deal with small amounts of these annoying pests. However, when you get a larger population, some damage to your lawn can start to be done. Additionally, animals like birds and raccoons are attracted to lawns with high grub populations, which means they'll be lurking around your water well, too. With higher populations of grubs, your best bet is to get rid of them.

Instructions

Test the areas around the well to figure out where you need to target treatment. Remove a 6-by-6 inch square of grass with a depth of 3 inches all around the well using a flat spade. In areas with more than two or three grubs, you need to get rid of the grubs.

Deal with the grub population during the right season. In the spring, you're likely too late to get rid of the grubs around your water well. Instead, wait until late summer, such as August or September, when you can get rid of the grubs when they're vulnerable.

Visit your local home improvement center to find an effective insecticide for your grub problem. The right treatment can depend on your area and the types of grubs that generally infest in your region. Some options include insecticides with trichlorfon or carbaryl.

Apply the insecticide to those areas around your water well where you found upward of eight to 10 grubs. This should be sufficient to control the population the following year. Follow manufacturer instructions carefully when working with pesticides.
