Cover the bottom of the sinkhole with limestone riprap, also known as limestone rubble, to seal the bottom of the hole and prevent further groundwater from making its way to the sinkhole.
Spread a thick layer of clayey sand on top of the limestone riprap to add an additional layer of protection in the sinkhole.
Fill the rest of the space in the sinkhole with clean soil to seal the hole.
Place lawn markers or metal rods around the covered hole to prevent people or pets from accidentally stepping on the sinkhole.
Contact your property insurance adjuster or insurance company to report the sinkhole. Once reported, a professional lawn expert will be sent to your home to inspect the sinkhole and determine the exact cause of the sinkhole.
