Vigoro Water Timer Troubleshooting

A Vigoro irrigation timer attaches easily to any faucet or hose to keep your lawn sprinklers on a tight schedule. The easy-to-use control panel features simple settings, such as "Start Time," "How Long" and "How Often." Simply press the directional buttons beside each field to set up a schedule. Every now and then, you could run into problems with your Vigoro, including leaks, scheduling conflicts or high water pressure. These are easily remedied with basic maintenance and setting adjustments.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a pitot tube into the sprinkler's water stream to measure the water pressure, if the impact sprinkler attached to the Vigoro irrigation timer fails to rotate. Too much or too little water pressure causes the impact sprinkler to water in one area. After the water pressure reading, increase or decrease the water pressure as needed.

    • 2

Unscrew the connected hose from the top of the Vigoro, if water leaks from the top. The nut on top of the device might not line up correctly with the threads of the faucet. Realign the nut of the Vigoro with the threads of the faucet and screw the nut onto the faucet. Tighten the nut by hand, being careful not to break it. If the nut is broken or cracked, replace it.

    • 3

Remove the Vigoro from the faucet, if it receives no power. The battery inside might be dead or installed incorrectly. Insert a screwdriver into the screws on the back of the timer and unscrew them. Remove the battery cover and remove the battery inside the chamber. Insert a new battery into the back of the chamber according to the polarity indicators. Then replace the battery cover and tighten the screws back into place.

    • 4

Press the "On/Off" button on the Vigoro front panel, if the connected sprinklers water past the designated deactivation time. The Vigoro might be set to manual watering mode. If you fail to turn off the manual watering mode, the timer shuts off the sprinklers automatically after 30 minutes.

    • 5

Press the "Current Time" directional buttons to set the current time, if the Vigoro waters during unscheduled times. The current time may not be accurate. Press the left or right directional buttons beside the "Current Time" field, until the right time is displayed to the closest hour and the AM/PM indicator is in the right place.

    • 6

Press the "How Often" directional buttons to lower the times per day that the sprinklers activate, if the sprinklers are activating too frequently. The number displayed beside the "How Often" field can represent hours or days. Notice the "Hours" and "Days" indicator to the left of the number. For instance, if you wish the sprinklers to water every 2 days instead of every 2 hours, adjust the number until the indicator dot lands beside the "Days" field.
