How to Make a Fertilizer Tea for Lawns

Home gardens include a wide range of foliage with trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables holding places in a balanced yard. One of the quickest and most effective ways of landscaping any property is with a large, rolling green lawn. Grass brings a yard both color and functionality, as both a ground cover and foundation planting. Keeping the grass bright and green requires consistent maintenance. Give grass frequent feedings of organic compost tea for continued growth and color.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of water. Scoop 2 cups of organic compost or horse manure into the bucket, or scoop the compost or horse manure into a burlap sack and hang the sack inside the bucket. Increase the ingredients in the same ratio for additional tea.

    • 2

Put the bucket in a warm, protected location and let it steep for three to four days. Don't leave the bucket in a windy or brightly lit area, as it will evaporate.

    • 3

Harvest the compost tea. If you put compost directly into the water, put a cloth over the bucket and pour the water into a second bucket. If you used a bag, lift the bag out of the water. Lay the leftover compost out in the flower or vegetable garden to improve soil quality.

Put the compost tea in a sprayer and apply it to the grass or pour it directly onto the grass from the bucket. Apply an even layer of compost tea to soak the soil.
