Cut three lengths of PVC pipe to the desired size. For example, to build a sprinkler 4 square feet in size, cut three lengths of PVC pipe to 2 feet each. Cut the pipe with a hacksaw.
Screw the garden hose adapter into the female end of a PVC adapter. This will create the connection between the hose and the PVC sprinkler.
Apply a thin layer of PVC cement around the outside of the female PVC adapter and press it firmly into a length of PVC pipe.
Apply a layer of PVC cement to a 90-degree elbow and press it into the other end of the PVC pipe with the hose adapter at the other end.
Apply a layer of PVC glue to the end of another section of PVC pipe. Press that end into the open side of the 90-degree elbow you just installed.
Apply a layer of PVC glue to the other end of the PVC pipe that you just installed, and press it into another 90-degree elbow.
Apply a layer of PVC glue to a third section of PVC pipe and press it into the open end of the 90-degree adapter you just installed.
Apply a layer of PVC glue to the other end of the third section of PVC pipe and press a PVC cap onto the pipe. This will plug the pipe and create a stable platform for the sprinkler when laid on the ground.
Use a drill with a 3/16-inch drill bit to punch holes every 1/2 inch along the top of the PVC pipe assembly. Each hole will allow water to escape at high pressure. The angle in which you drill the holes will dictate the direction of the water flow. Use a variety of angles all along the pipe to create a sprinkler that applies water to the most square footage.
Screw the sprinkler hose adapter on the PVC sprinkler assembly onto the end of a garden hose. Place the sprinkler in the lawn where you want it to provide water and turn on the hose faucet.
