How to Assemble a Craftsman Snowblower Carburetor

Craftsman snowblowers feature Briggs & Stratton small engines. The carburetor on these engines may break down over time and require disassembly and reassembly in order to ensure proper snowblower operation. This does not require the aid of the snowblower manufacturer or any uncommon, non-household tools. You can assemble your Craftsman snowblower carburetor regardless of your level of experience with snowblower assembly.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips (cross-head) screwdriver
  • Dish
  • Cloth
  • Carburetor cleaning solution

Instructions

    • 1

Power off the snowblower. Allow the Craftsman's engine to cool before attempting any operations.

    • 2

Remove the Craftsman snowblower's muffler to access the carburetor. The muffler is at the bottom left of the mower's engine block and may be removed via the loosening and removing of its bolts with a socket wrench.

    • 3

Remove the Craftsman snowblower's fuel tank to access the carburetor. The fuel tank is held in place with bolts in the same manner the muffler was. These bolts must be removed with your socket wrench. Slide the fuel tank from the machine once loosened. Set it carefully aside.

    • 4

Find the Craftsman snowblower's carburetor bowl at the right side of the engine block. It will be about halfway up along the side. The carburetor intake is on the rear behind the distinctive bowl, and the air filter can be easily seen on the back of the intake part.

    • 5

Remove the Craftsman snowblower's carburetor intake from the rest of the carburetor by removing its bolts and screws with your wrench and a Phillips head screwdriver, respectively.

    • 6

Position a dish under the Craftsman snowblower's carburetor bowl. Loosen and remove the nut on the bottom of the carburetor bowl with your wrench. Allow all the fuel to drain from the carburetor to the dish.

    • 7

Remove the carburetor bowl once it has finished draining by twisting it off.

    • 8

Clean out the carburetor bowl with a cloth and carburetor cleaning solution before reassembly, or choose to replace the bowl entirely.

    • 9

Twist the carburetor bowl back into place on the Briggs & Stratton engine and reinsert the nut into the bottom of the bowl with your socket wrench.

    • 10

Reattach the air intake piece to the rest of the Craftsman snowblower's carburetor via the reinsertion and tightening of its screws and bolts with your screwdriver and socket wrench.

    • 11

Slide the fuel tank back into place and reattach it with its bolts and your wrench.

    • 12

Fix the muffler back into place using the remaining bolts and your wrench.
