How to Fix Too Much Oil in Gas Snow Blower

Frequent oil changes keep your gas snow blower in good condition, but it's easy to fill your snow blower with too much oil. This can lead to messy results, although correcting the problem is straightforward and doesn't require any professional assistance. You can drain the oil from your gas snow blower back down to a proper level, even if you are not familiar with troubleshooting oil-change problems with the snow blower. You will also need to siphon or remove the snow blower's fuel prior to draining the oil.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the snow blower and burn off the old gas. Or siphon the gas out and save it for use after you fix the oil problem. Insert one end of a clear hose into the snow blower's gas tank to begin the siphoning process.

    • 2

Set up an empty gas can so that it sits on a level surface lower than the snow blower.

    • 3

Place the other end of the clear hose into your mouth. Suck in slightly to begin the flow of the fuel out of the snow blower's gas tank. The hose is clear, which will allow you to stop sucking long before the fuel approaches your mouth.

    • 4

Remove the hose from your mouth, taking care to immediately place a thumb over the end of the hose. You must not allow any air into the hose.

    • 5

Place the end of the hose into the gas can and release your thumb. Gas will siphon from the snow blower's tank into the gas can. Remove the hose when all of the gas has been siphoned.

    • 6

Remove the oil plug on the snow blower. The plug will be on the lower rear of the snow blower.

    • 7

Place a pan on the ground. Turn the snow blower over to drain oil from the blower's oil reservoir.

    • 8

Return the snow blower to its normal orientation. Use the dipstick beneath the oil plug to check the oil level. Lower the dipstick into the oil reservoir and pull it back out. The oil line should fall between the "Low" and "High" hash marks on the dip stick, preferably as close to the "High" mark as possible. Drain further oil if necessary, depending on the dip stick's reading.

    • 9

Add oil back into the oil reservoir if you drained too much. Place a funnel into the open oil reservoir and pour oil from the pan back into the snow blower through the funnel.

    • 10

Replace the oil plug when you have the oil level set properly.

    • 11

Refill your snow blower's fuel tank with the gas you removed.
