How to Calibrate Earthway Spreaders

The EarthWay brand line spreaders include power spreaders, broadcast or drop spreaders, hand-held spreaders for commercial or personal use for either large or small size lawns. When you first purchase your EarthWay spreader, you will need to calibrate it so the machine operates as efficiently as possible prior to using it. The machine must be calibrated before you can adjust the spreader's setting rates. It will only take a few minutes to calibrate your spreader.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up the rod on the shut-off lever if you have a broadcast spreader with a rod adjustment lever.

    • 2

Study the control lever. If the front edge is set at No. 30, it is correctly calibrated. If not, you will need to calibrate it. Adjust the control lever by loosening the upper and lower nuts with a wrench. Move the lever to No. 30 and tighten the nuts with the wrench.

    • 3

Calibrate a broadcast spreader with a cable adjustment if the control lever is not already set at No. 30. Check that the shut-off is completely open.

    • 4

Loosen the cable clamp screw on the bottom side of the hopper with a wrench. Shift the control lever to No. 30. Tighten the clamp screw.

    • 5

Properly calibrate a drop spreader by opening the control rate handle. If the number is not at No. 30, twist the control cable until it is at No. 30.
