How to Make a Snow Pusher Plow for a Bobcat

Bobcat is a company that manufactures front-end loading skid steers. A pusher plow is a type of snow plow that is mounted in a fixed position at the front of a lawn tractor or a skid steer, like the Bobcat. Plow attachments can be purchased for the Bobcat, as an extension. However, plow attachments can be costly. A common, fixed position plow attachment can be constructed from parts in a few hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain an old plow shield from a junk yard, or use an old one if you have one laying around the yard or garage. The plow shield is the long shovel-like piece that actually plows the snow.

    • 2

Use a steel wool pad and a cleaner, like Comet, to remove as much rust from the plow shield as possible.

    • 3

Pull the bobcat up to the rear of the plow shield and examine where the receiver assembly is on the Bobcat. The receiver assembly on the Bobcat is the hitching area on the front of the skid steer that different front-end attachments connect to. Compare the height on the Bobcat to the back of the plow shield to determine where (on the plow shield) mounting brackets will need to be installed.

    • 4

Place a mounting bracket on the left-hand side of the back side of the plow shield and mark where the mounting holes are with a crayon. Do the same on the right-hand side of the plow shield.

    • 5

Drill holes for the mounting brackets on the back of the plow shield.

    • 6

Hold the mounting brackets in place again and slip the bolt through the bracket hole and the hole drilled on the plow shield. Attach the nut to the back of the bolt and tighten them with a wrench or socket set.

    • 7

Position the attachment arm in between the two mounting brackets and drill mounting holes on each side of the arm. Slip mounting bolts into the drilled holes and then attach nuts and tighten with a wrench.

    • 8

Slide the end of the attachment arm that has been mounted on the DIY pusher plow into the receiver arm of the Bobcat and slip locking pins through the mounting holes.
