How to Treat a Yard for Parasites

Yards are the most common places to find parasites such as fleas, ticks, hookworms, heartworms and roundworms. If you have pets, you need to treat your yard to ensure that your pets are safe. Parasites make their way into your yard and attach themselves to any host they can find. When they get on you or your pets, you bring them into your home, creating a new infestation. Using a pesticide is the most common way to get rid of parasites in your yard.

Buy a pesticide from a home and garden store. Buy a pesticide that has the ability to attach to your hose. These pesticides can be mixed with the water from your hose to cover the entire yard. The pesticide will also run into the ground to kill the parasites lurking in the dirt.

Attach the pesticide to your hose at the spigot inlet. Allow the water to mix with the pesticide. Apply the pesticide to trees, bushes and other vegetation in your yard. Parasites hide on the bark of trees, bushes and flowers in your yard. The pesticides should not affect the vegetation in your yard.

Use a powdered pesticide to line your yard. Sprinkling the powder along the yard's line keeps the parasites from entering your yard. Allow the treatment to sit in your yard for 24 hours before you let your pets into it. This will give the pesticide time to get into the ground and kill the parasites.
