When to Spread Scotts Weed & Feed

The Scotts company has several weed and feed products for homeowners to choose from depending upon the type of grass growing and the weeds they want to control. Applying a weed and feed at the right time is essential to effectively eliminating, or preventing, weeds in your lawn.
  1. Scotts Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control

    • Scotts Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control should be applied in late spring while weeds are actively growing. When applying weed and feeds, always make sure that the lawn is wet before you start application. This will ensure that the herbicide granules adhere to the surface of the weed. Do not allow any water to be applied to the lawn for 24 hours after application. Scotts Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control can be applied up to twice a year and contains a 28-1-4 fertilizer for a dark green lawn.

Scotts Lawn Pro Step 2 Weed and Feed

    • Scotts Lawn Pro Step 2 is part of a four-step program designed to prevent and kill weeds, control insects and winterize you lawn. Apply Scotts Pro Step 2 Weed and Feed in early spring, from April to June, while weeds are actively growing. This product contains three weed killers, 2,4-D, dicamba and mecoprop. Scotts Lawn Pro Step 2 will kill broadleaf weeds but not grassy weeds such as crabgrass.

Scotts Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed

    • Scotts Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed is specially designed for southern, warm-season grasses such as St. Augustine grass (including floratam), centipede, zoysia, and carpetgrass lawns. Do not apply this product on cool-season grasses such as bluegrass, ryegrass and fescue. Apply Scotts Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed in late winter, spring or fall. The 29-1-10 fertilizer helps strengthen your lawn against heat and drought. The weed killer in Scotts Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed will control dollarweed and 24 other common weeds.

Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer

    • If crabgrass is your main concern, Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer is the right product for you. This weed and feed works by preventing crabgrass from germinating and must be applied before germination takes place. Applications will be most effective during early spring, February through April. The 30-0-4 fertilizer will help your lawn to green-up quickly after a long winter and will prevent crabgrass all season.

Scotts Turf Builder Winter Guard with Plus 2 Weed Control

Scotts Turf Builder Winter Guard with Plus 2 Weed Control is designed to kill all fall-germinating broadleaf weeds and prepare your lawn for the winter ahead.
