How to Replace the Mower Drive Belt in Your Husky

If the mower deck on your Husqvarna starts to make a high-pitched noise, you can assume it is time to change the mower drive belt on your Husky. The drive belt is responsible for transferring power from the motor’s flywheel pulley to the pulleys that connect to the mower blades. The belts used on mowers are the same type of Kevlar V-groove belts used on automobiles — and just like automobiles, the belt eventually wear out.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the Husqvarna onto level ground and set the parking brake.

    • 2

Locate the lift lever for the Husqvarna mower deck and lower the deck as far as you can. The lever protrudes from the top of the rear fender.

    • 3

Locate the PTO lever and position it to the “off” position. The PTO lever stops the rotation of the flywheel pulley mounted on the bottom of the engine.

    • 4

Remove the bolts that secure the guards over both large pulleys on the Husqvarna mower deck.

    • 5

Place a three-eighths-inch ratchet into the square hole on the smaller tensioner pulley and rotate the pulley out of the way. Pull the belt off the pulleys on the Husqvarna mower deck.

    • 6

Locate the flywheel pulley under the engine and remove the bolts that hold the guard over the pulley. Pull the belt off the flywheel pulley.

    • 7

Place the new belt onto the flywheel pulley and reinstall the guard. The guard will help to keep the belt from falling off the pulley.

    • 8

Push the ratchet in to move the tensioner pulley out of the way, then place the belt onto the pulleys. Remove the ratchet from the tensioner pulley.

    • 9

Reinstall the guards over the two large pulleys on the Husqvarna mower deck.
