How to Install a Floodlight Eye Sensor

Stand by the side of the house where you will be installing the motion-sensor solar-powered floodlight. Confirm that sunlight strikes the side of the building for at least five hours during the course of the day. Make a dot on the wall where the solar panel will be installed, higher than can be reached from the ground by hand.

Loosen the screw on the bottom or side of the floodlight module, depending on how it is made, with a Phillips jeweler’s screwdriver. Remove the side panel so you can access the controls inside the compartment.

Adjust the time-of-day knob or set screw with your fingers or a flat-edged jeweler’s screwdriver, depending on how the controls are mounted, so the reading is up against “Night” or “Evening.” This will activate the motion-sensor “eye” once the sun goes down.

Adjust the sensitivity knob or set screw to “Medium” or halfway between the lowest and highest number printed against the control, depending on how the controls are mounted.

Adjust the “Timer” knob or set screw to “60” so the light turns itself off after a minute has passed. Close the side panel and tighten the screw.

Place the module against the side of the building next to where you made the dot. Insert wood screws into the predrilled holes in each side of the module. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Place the solar panel next to the module on the wall, over the dot. Insert wood screws into the predrilled holes in each side of the panel. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Angle the sensor “eye” at the top of the floodlight module so it is aimed in the direction of the area to be illuminated. Angle the front of the floodlight in this direction also.
