Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut a 36-inch sheet of fabric from the roll, using any type of fabric that matches your needs. Turn the milk crate with the opened end facing upward.

    • 2

Squeeze a thick line of hot glue along the inside of the bottom of the crate. Make an "X" pattern with the glue across the center of the bottom of the crate.

    • 3

Lay the sheet of fabric evenly over the opened milk crate so that it overlaps in equal measurements around all sides. The fabric should brush the floor while draped over the opened crate.

    • 4

Push the fabric over the opened crate into it, pressing it firmly into the glued edges and flatly on the bottom. Let it dry for 10 minutes. Turn the crate over, allowing the fabric edges to hang out of under the crate.

    • 5

Squeeze a line of glue up the outside of each corner of the crate. Ease the corresponding fabric edges upward, pressing it against the glued crate. Let it dry for 10 minutes. This lines and frames the crate, save for the flattened base, with fabric. Smooth the fabric out tightly with your fingers as it dries in the glue. You can also pinch pleats into the fabric if you wish.

    • 6

Fold two old T-shirts neatly and stack them on top of one another. Measure and cut a square of fabric that equals to twice the size of the folded shirts.

    • 7

Place a 12-by-12-inch square of wood paneling down on the center of the square of fabric. Place the folded T-shirts on top of the wood panel. Fold the excess fabric inward over the T-shirts snugly.

    • 8

Squeeze a thick line of glue in an "X" shape across the surface of the base of the upturned crate.

    • 9

Turn over the fabric wrapped wood and T-shirt segment you just made with the hardened part facing upward. Place it onto the glued surface of the crate. Press down on it firmly for two minutes to set it into the glue. Let it dry for 10 minutes. The hardened top of the structure serves as your table surface, and the padding beneath it adds height and texture to your homemade nightstand. This design works excellently with bohemian bedroom decor.
