Concrete Edging Machines

Concrete edging involves adding a concrete edge around lawns, gardens or flower beds. You can also use concrete edging around trees. If you plan on doing this yourself, you need the proper equipment. This equipment helps you mix the concrete, lay it out and sand and finish it. When operating this equipment, always wear gloves and safety goggles.
  1. Curb Machine

    • A curb machine is specifically for creating edges around lawns and gardens. These tools generally have four wheels, but the front wheels are removable, revealing a square groove in the front. This groove creates the edging and keeps it from spilling to either side of the edging. The center tray holds the concrete mix, and one or two handles are in the back. The handles help you guide the machine. These curb machines are either gas- or electric-powered. Gas-powered machines have an internal combustion engine that uses gas. The electric-powered machines move via an electric engine. During the operation of these machines, you generally need two people. One person pushes the machine while the other adds the concrete. Curb machines allow you to add the edging without damaging the existing plants or lawn.

    Concrete Mixer

    • A concrete mixer constantly rolls your concrete so that it doesn't harden. You can also use these machines to actually mix your concrete, water and additives. A concrete mixer has a round center section, where you hold the concrete mixer. The size of the concrete mixer depends on your needs. For lawn care use, you generally just need a small, electric or hand-powered mixer. Most small concrete mixers have a hand crank in the back. Pour your concrete mixer materials in the center section and then crank the handle to rotate the mixer. If you want to add coloring to your concrete, add it to the concrete mixer.

    Grinder

    • A concrete grinder sands your concrete, removing any rough or uneven patches. You can also use these to prepare your concrete for sealant or stain if you plan on using it after your concrete dries. Grinders are typically electric-powered, and are often cordless. There are two main types of concrete grinders: planetary or rotary. The planetary grinders have three planetary discs that rotate at different speeds. The rotary grinder has either one or multiple discs in a counterclockwise rotation. As these discs move, they finish the surface of the concrete.
