Edging for Raised Flower Bed That Enables You to Cut the Grass Easily

Raised flower beds solve the problem of poor soil drainage. They present a problem when mowing the lawn because the lawn mower can't reach the grass right next to the planter. The solution is edging.
  1. Gravel

    • Clear a space 6 inches wide and 2 inches deep around the planter. Lay down landscaping fabric and then a layer of gravel in the same space. The wheels of the lawn mower will go over the gravel and allow you to cut the grass right next to the gravel.

    Bricks

    • Lay bricks horizontally around the raised flower bed and flush with the ground. This provides a surface for the lawn mower wheels to roll over to cut the grass. The grass won't grow over the bricks.

    Concrete

    • Create a concrete mowing strip around the raised bed. This is more or less permanent and not easily moved. You'll need to provide a bed of sand and gravel below the concrete and use forms to keep the concrete in place until it cures.
