Colorado's terrain plays a major factor in watering a lawn. Higher elevations have rocky, fast-draining soil and dry weather year-round. Lawns may need water even when rain and snow are ample.
Observe a lawn and water it anytime there are more than seven days of dry weather and temperatures above 45 degrees.
Water the lawn slowly for several days using soaker hoses, hose-end sprinklers or deep root needles. Focus on a different part of your lawn each day. Water the lawn between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
