In the winter months zoysia grass turns brown and is subject to rust and fairy ring. This can make a property look unhealthy. Moreover, zoysia grass is tough to control and can quickly overtake flowerbeds and your neighbor's yard.
Non-chemical elimination of zoysia grass requires time and patience. Fertilize the lawn in September and October only, and never cut the grass shorter 3 inches. After several years of taking these measures, cool-season turf grasses will overtake zoysia.
Zoysi agrass can be eliminated more quickly with the use of herbicides. Use a non-selective weedkiller, such as glyphosate, and reseed the lawn. Herbicides are toxic, so be sure to follow all safety precautions printed on the product labels.
