How to Use a Mobile Garden Hose

If you've got a big yard with lots of places to water, one solution might be to start using a mobile garden hose. These hoses come on hose reels and can move around by the use of wheels. One end attaches to your household exterior faucet, and the hose can be moved to any location within the range of the hose. Once you've hooked up a mobile garden hose, you'll never have to worry about watering those hard-to-reach plants again.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean off the faucet where you will be attaching the mobile garden hose reel with a rag or nylon brush. Clean off any dirt or mud that may be clinging to the faucet threads.

    • 2

Attach a vacuum breaker, if needed. Many cities and municpalities require the presence of a vacuum breaker on outdoor faucets. Consult your local municpality for more information.

    • 3

Connect one end of the mobile garden hose to the faucet or vacuum breaker. Turn on the water supply at the faucet by rotating the handle counterclockwise.

    • 4

Connect a sprayer handle, sprinker or other fixture to the outlet end of the hose on the front side of the reel.

    • 5

Grab the mobile hose reel by the handle and move it to the location to be watered. As you move the hose base, feed out the hose connected to the faucet on the back of the machine. Some mobile garden hose reels have a lock or catch that must be released before feeding out the hose. Unlock, if necessary. Use the handle on the side to feed out the hose.

    • 6

Set the reel down close to where you wish to water.

    • 7

Feed the hose out of the front of the reel. Squeeze the sprayer handle to water where you wish.
