How to Adjust a Gilmour Spike Sprinkler

A Gilmour spike sprinkler features a metal or plastic spike on the bottom of the support tube that is designed to be inserted into the ground to provide stability. The head of the Gilmour spike sprinkler is an impact sprinkler that moves from side to side to distribute water evenly across a lawn or landscape. Determine the location for watering with the Gilmour spike sprinkler. Position the diffuser end of the sprinkler so it points toward the desired direction in the lawn or landscape. Push the spike on the end of the bottom of the sprinkler down into the ground. Check the connection between the hose and the fitting on the sprinkler making sure it is tight.

Turn on the water to the Gilmour sprinkler and observe the pattern of the water both horizontally and vertically. Turn off the water to make adjustments.

    • 3

Locate the collars on the side of the sprinkler head. Pinch the tabs on the collars together to move them closer or further apart. Position the collars closer together to reduce the side-to-side motion of the sprinkler head or further apart to increase the distance.

    • 4

Adjust the distance control knob on the top of the Gilmour sprinkler. Turn the knurled knob toward a lower number or (-) to reduce the distance that water is projected. Turn the knob toward a higher number or (+) to increase the distance.
