What Are Zenith Zoysia Sprigs?

Zoysiagrasses are grasses that grow in warm climates, as it originated in China, Japan and Southeast Asia. Zenith zoysiagrass is a variety of standard zoysiagrass that has been engineered to produce a higher quality grass surface, with finer leaf texture and dark green color.
  1. Sprigs

    • Zenith zoysiagrass sprigs are grass runners made of pieces of rooted or unrooted leafy grass. They are most commonly used for patching an existing lawn with damage but also can be used to start a lawn such as when building a new home. Zenith zoysiagrass sprigs are usually purchased -- and planted -- from a nursery or greenhouse in the spring or early summer.

    Benefits

    • Benefits of Zenith zoysiagrass include high seed productivity, improved density, resilience to use and wear, uniformity and very high turf quality. Zenith zoysiagrass is commonly used by golf courses, landscaping design and athletic fields because of these characteristics. This type of grass requires a low amount of nitrogen and adapts easily to most soils.

    Growing Climate

    • The original zoysiagrass was imported from warm climates and survives heat and drought well. First tested in warm areas of the United States such as along the Gulf Coat, it proved to flourish in those conditions. The low-growing and creeping Zenith zoysiagrass is cold-resistant and can survive in areas such as Chicago and New York, as well.
