A portable fire pit is a popular addition to many backyards across the country. The fire put can be fueled with wood, propane or natural gas. However, whichever fuel type you choose, the portable fire pit will still feature an open flame. This flame can throw off sparks that can either darken or actually ignite the grass surrounding it. When this happens, your lawn can become damaged from the flames. There are a few things you can do to help protect your lawn from the portable fire pit.

  Check to make sure the spot you choose for your portable fire put is not slanted. Use a level and dig out some of the area if it's slanted. This will help protect the surrounding lawn from possible problems with the portable fire pit.

  Hire a certified professional to install a gas portable fire pit. These can be hazardous to your lawn and your family's safety if they are not installed correctly.

  Add plenty of stones, rocks or bricks around your portable fire pit. This will build up an area around the fire pit that helps to further separate it from your lawn.

  Bring a hose near your portable fire put whenever you use it. If any sparks should ignite an area of your grass, you can protect it immediately by using your hose to extinguish the fire.
