Landscape Ideas for Outdoor Enclosed Pools

An enclosed outdoor pool area offers its owners a place to relax during long, hot summer months. By combining a mix of man-made and natural elements, you can give your enclosed outdoor pool the perfect balance of swimming and lounging atmosphere that can make the time you spend by the pool more enjoyable.
  1. Versatile Privacy

    • Consider your privacy when enclosing a pool. While it may not be important for some, many people enjoy privacy when swimming. One option for providing privacy without completely blocking off outside light source is to enclose your pool with fences that have slats to open and close, allowing you to let in sunlight or close off view of your swimming area at will. This is a more versatile option than solid fencing. Ensure that you have a locking gate to keep children from entering the pool area.

    Adding Storage

    • Storage should be figured into your landscape. Plastic cabinets or stackable drawers are perfect for housing toys that will be played with in the pool, as well as towels and other pool essentials. This helps keep them out of the way but close at hand. These storage bins can be found in a variety of decorative colors or patterns with a water theme.

    Plants

    • Plants in pots can make excellent decor, but try to choose plants that won't lose their leaves. Typical pool plants, such as geraniums and petunias tend to lose leaves and create a mess around the pool area that is not only unsightly, but can also lead to someone slipping and hurting themselves. Consider colorful potted plants, ferns, bamboo and zinnia.

    Natural Landscaping

    • Build natural landscaping into your pool area, but keep it away from the actual patio by building up a divider made of wood or plastic. Avoid soil and sand. Instead, choose crushed seashells or smooth, colorful pebbles to fill in the edges around your pool and brighten the landscape.
