How to Shut Down a Sprinkler System

Once a sprinkler system is shut down it's safe for winter conditions or long-term delays between uses. Turning off a sprinkler system for the season or to do maintenance usually means draining the manifold and vacuum breaker, as well as shutting off the main water supply that feeds the manifold. It's best to perform these steps prior to the first deep freeze of the season.
