How to Get Rid of Manure

If you keep animals in your household or farm, it is inevitable to accumulate manure. If you do not get rid of the accumulated manure, it may become a hotbed for flies, larvae and parasites. Furthermore, if you keep the manure for a long time, you may run the risk of infecting your animals with thrush and other hoof-related illnesses. Fortunately there are many solutions you can use to get rid of manure.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect manure in a pile and when the pile is at least 2 feet tall, load the manure onto the back of a truck and spread it around your land to fertilize the soil. Spread the manure evenly with a shovel to avoid ammonia concentrations on the topsoil.

    • 2

Create a compost pile at the end of your garden away from animals. It may take up to a year for the manure to turn into compost. You can later use the compost to fertilize the soil. Alternate one level of manure and another level of leaves or other organic material to create a compost pile. Purchase a compost bin if you are dealing with smaller amounts of manure.

    • 3

Sell your manure to neighboring farmers or fertilizer companies. Notify potential buyers by placing ads in the local newspaper or at farm and garden stores. Describe the type of manure and the price in your ad.

    • 4

Hire a hauling company to haul the manure away from your farm. Alternatively, you can haul the manure yourself to a composting site.
