How to Cover Bush Stumps

After bushes and trees are cut down, they leave behind an unsightly stump in your yard. Stump removal can be very costly and time consuming, so many people decide to simply leave the stump in the ground. Fortunately, there are ways you can cover up the stump to make your yard look more aesthetically pleasing. Your options for covering up the stumps will vary depending on their size and location, but can include carvings, statues, wells, flower covers and mosses.

Instructions

    • 1

Hire a wood carver to carve a decorative image into the stump. This works best on larger stumps. They can be carved into scenery, flowers, animals, or just about anything else you can think of. If you're artistic enough, you could even try carving it yourself using a hammer and a wood chisel.

    • 2

Plant flowers or other vegetation around the stump to cover it up. The types of flowers and vegetation used will depend on how big the stump is. Smaller stumps can be covered with mosses or low-growing plants and flowers. Larger stumps will need larger plants and flowers that are dense and able to cover a more substantial object.

    • 3

Place a statue over the stump. Measure the diameter and height of the stump with a measuring tape and find a statue with a hollow bottom that is slightly larger than the stump's dimensions.

    • 4

Place a decorative well over the stump. A decorative well can accommodate almost any stump, small or large. Just make sure the diameter and height of the stump are smaller than the hole in the bottom of the well.

    • 5

Chisel the middle out of the stump and create a planter. This works best for stumps that are at least 6 inches in diameter. Fill the hole with soil and plant flowers or other plants.
