      Put on safety glasses and hearing protection before using a gas-, electric- or battery-powered string trimmer. Refer to the specific manufacturers directions for preparing the string trimmer for use.

      Stand beside the weeds to be cut. Assume a comfortable stance with your feet shoulder-width apart. Grip the string trimmer comfortably.

      Position the head of the string trimmer above the ground at height you want to cut the weeds. Hold the trimmer head level with the ground.

      Press the throttle control trigger to start the trimmer string spinning. Move the spinning string into the weeds to begin cutting.

      Move the trimmer from side to side to cut wide areas of weeds. Use a slow and steady side to side and forward motion to effectively cut weeds and avoid wrapping tall weeds around the shaft of the trimmer.
