How to Straighten a Crooked Sprinkler Head

At least once a year, it's important to check your entire sprinkler system for signs of wear or damage. This includes looking for sprinkler heads that are leaning or crooked in the ground. These can prevent water from properly covering your lawn or create spot flooding. Fortunately, almost all sprinkler systems are built on flexible sprinkler risers that can be easily adjusted. These lines allow you to dig up the existing sprinkler and reposition it.

Instructions

    • 1

      Locate the leaning sprinkler head.

    • 2

Dig up the area surrounding the sprinkler body. Remove at least 5 inches of dirt from around the base of the sprinkler.

    • 3

Position the sprinkler so it is level in the ground. As an option, you can place a small bubble level on top of the sprinkler head to find the perfectly level position.

    • 4

Hold the sprinkler in place and fill the area around the sprinkler body with the dirt you previously removed.

    • 5

Pack the dirt down around the sprinkler by hand or step on the dirt to pack it tight. This will hold the sprinkler in place.
