How to Clear Heavy Grass

If your property has been neglected or if you need to clear a heavily vegetated area, then you might get a bit overwhelmed when looking out onto a field of heavy grass. Heavy grass tends to be thicker and taller than standard lawns, which means you shouldn't attempt to clear it using a lawn mower. Instead, a grass trimmer is the tool for the job. The right trimmer blade combined with the right technique will allow you to clear the heavy grass fairly quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the trimmer line on your grass trimmer with a grass and brush blade. This will be necessary to clear heavier grass.

    • 2

Turn on your trimmer and use sweeping movements, from left to right, to clear low, heavy grass. This lets you clear the grass faster because you're cutting more with each sweep.

    • 3

Use a single-sided movement to clear longer grass. This techniques gives you more power behind the swing, as well as more control.

    • 4

Release the throttle on your grass trimmer when you have finished a sweeping motion. Then throttle up for your next stroke. This accelerates the blade and will drive even more power into the next sweep. This helps with particularly heavy grass.
