How to Look After a Moth Orchid

Moth orchids have lively blossoms that can be pink, white, yellow or lavender in color. Some blossoms for moth orchids can also have multiple colors or even spots and stripes, making them appear like an exotic flower that would be tough to grow. However, with the proper treatment, they can stay in bloom for up to three months, with blossoms reaching 5 inches across. These orchids also work well in large groups, since they are known to blossom in the order they are arranged.

Instructions

    • 1

Give your moth orchid a spot where it can get lots of sunlight. Outdoor and indoor orchids should not be obstructed from early morning or late afternoon sun.

    • 2

Shade your moth orchids from mid-day sun whenever possible. This amount of sunlight can sometimes be too intense for orchids.

    • 3

Water your moth orchids every seven to 10 days. Saturate the soil beneath the orchids completely. Ideally, wait until the soil is nearly dry before watering again.

    • 4

Apply liquid plant food or fertilizer that features equal parts of N-P-K to the soil beneath the orchids. This should be applied every other time you water the plants. Stop applying these substances while the moth orchids are in their flowering season.
