How to Mount a 36-Inch Mower Deck on a JD 180

When you look at the 36-inch mower deck for the John Deere 180 lawn tractor, you will see two sets of linkage bars on each side of the mower deck and a loose drive belt on top of the deck. To connect the 36-inch mower deck to your John Deere 180, you must connect the linkage bars to the pins mounted under the lawn tractor, and you must connect the drive belt on the mower deck to the drive pulley mounted under the engine. This is all part of routine maintenance for a John Deere, so the process is user-friendly.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the height adjustment lever to its upright position if it is not already in that position. The lever is located on the left rear fender.

    • 2

Slide the John Deere 36-inch mower deck under the lawn tractor and position a 2-by-4-inch wooden block under the right side and left side of the deck.

    • 3

Pull the drive belt toward the front of the mower. If it will not reach the drive pulley located under the engine, pull the deck forward slightly until it will reach. Place the belt around the drive pulley.

    • 4

Move the linkage rods until you can slide each rod onto the mounting pins under the lawn tractor. Secure the front linkage rods to the front pins and the rear linkage rods to the rear pins.

    • 5

Place the large washers onto the end of the pins and over the rods.

    • 6

Secure the washers and the linkage rods to the linkage pins by inserting a cotter pin through the hole in the linkage pins.
