How to Get Bigger Cherries Naturally

Cherries are a type of fruit that can be grown by any homeowner. Like any other fruit or vegetable, careful instructions must be followed when you are growing cherries. Cherries can grow to many different sizes. No matter what type of cherry you are growing, there are a few tricks you can follow to ensure your cherries grow to the maximum size and are as big as you want them to be, when it is time to eat them.

Things You'll Need

  • Pocket knife

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the cherry tree and look for branches that are too long. Measure the length of the branches and tip out branches that are over 12-inches. Pinch the tip of any growth of leaves over 12-inches. Squeeze down on them by hand and spread out the leaves. This will give the cherries more room to grow and expand, while allowing more cherries to sprout.

    • 2

Stimulate the bud growth of the tree. Cut a small notch through the bark and into the inner hardwood just above the cherry bud with a pocket knife. This will help stimulate the bud to grow.

    • 3

Bend all of the branches that are straight and vertical. The more vertical the branches, the more negative the growth of the cherries will be. Grab the branch with your dominant hand near the top and your non-dominant hand near the bottom.

    • 4

Pull down on the branch and bend it slightly, until it is between 30 and 60 degrees. This will create less foliage and more space for the cherries to grow. Repeat the process for all of the other branches that are pointing straight up.
