Martha's Herbary is located in Pomfret, Connecticut, and offers accessories for use in and out of the garden. Gilbertie's Herb Garden is located in Westport, Connecticut, and has been growing herbs since 1922. The retail center has formal outdoor display gardens, greenhouses and a retail store. They feature more than 400 varieties of herbs, including 19 types of thyme, 19 varieties of sage and 15 varieties of basil. They also own some hard-to-find varieties, such as stinging nettle, scented geraniums and angelica. In addition to the numerous selection of herbs, seasonal flowering plants can be found in the herb garden.
The Sundial Gardens is located in Higganum, Connecticut, and offers a variety of products in addition to the herbs grown in the herb gardens. A variety of fine teas are offered, including white tea, yellow tea, oolong, blended and green tea, as well as black tea, pouchongs and been-cha cake teas. Some of the herb teas offered include a chamomile-fennel blend, goodnight tea, rosemary-hibiscus blend, raspberry leaf tea, sage tea and ginger root tea. You can also purchase a versatile herb blend that can be used in pasta, omelets, pizza, salads and rice.
Topmost Herb Farm is located in Coventry, Connecticut, and grows both culinary and medicinal herbs. The herbs are organically grown without commercial fertilizers and pesticides. Herbal plant teas are used for disease and insect control and the organic potting mix is made of kelp and seaweed mixtures. The greenhouse is open seasonally between May and September of each year. Heirloom tomatoes are grown in addition to the perennial and annual herbs and most are shown in the display gardens. Some of the herbs that are grown include a variety of basil, anise, chamomile, catnip, dill, comfrey and garlic.
