Purchase the appropriate strain of ivy to be used for creeping and clinging.
Locate a section of the landscaping that will provide the correct amount of sunlight and water.
Using the shovel, dig a hole for planting the ivy.
Put on the gardening gloves and sprinkle lime in the hole prior to planting the ivy.
Place the ivy plant in the hole, apply water and cover with dirt.
Utilizing the stakes or mini trellis, guide the ivy plant to climb the stake/trellis, and secure with gardening wire.
Gently guide growing ivy along the trellis and onto the deck.
Check ivy growth, trimming when needed, guiding through the deck railings and along the base.
Provide water, pruning and guiding as needed.
