Plant basil. Basil is a wonderful summer herb that is easy to growth and can be added to many dishes. Additionally, with a large basil plot, you can have delicious pesto whenever you want! Plant your basil in a well-drained area that receives lot of direct sunlight. Water it often.

Add Tarragon. Summer is a great time to plant tarragon which can be used in salads, vinegars, chicken and fish dishes. It has a nice flavor and looks pretty too. Unfortunately, you will have to divide the plants or take trimmings if you want them next year too. Plant in well-drained soil with lots of sun. Water frequently when the weather is dry.

Use rosemary for the BBQ. Plant rosemary in the summer for a nice addition to many dishes. You can use the long, wood stalks as skewers on the BBQ to add flavor to your meat. As with other herbs, plant in well drained soil with lots of sun.

Plant chives. Chives are great for those summer baked potatoes, salads and other dishes. They will last all summer and come again the next year. Plant them in rich soil with lots of sun. You can also grow them indoors in pots on the windowsill.
