Fill your seed tray with soil-free potting mix, leaving 1/2 inch at the top to account for plant growth.
Lightly water the potting mix using your watering can and room temperature water. The potting mix should be moist but not wet enough to squeeze out a drop of water.
Plant your herb seeds at the proper depth according to the instructions listed on the seed packet. Water liberally.
Apply an organic fertilizer to the soil and repeat monthly, or as indicated on the package instructions.
Place the seed trays underneath the grow lights, ensuring that there is at least 6 inches of space between the soil and the top of the grow lights. Keep the grow lights on for 14 hours per day.
Water your seed trays daily until your seeds have germinated and small seedlings are 2 inches in height. Once they are 2 inches, you can water them only when the soil feels dry to the touch.
Transplant the seedlings to the garden once they are at least 3 inches in height, the danger of frost as passed and they have been hardened off.
