Cilantro Planting Companions

Cilantro-coriander (Coriandrum sativum) may have a high culinary value, but it also works to reduce bad insects in your garden and attract beneficial ones when planted near other vegetables and herbs.
  1. Cilantro-Coriander

    • Sometimes called Chinese parsley, the leaves of this annual herb most often go into salsas and other spicy foods. Coriander seeds are highly aromatic and add flavor to vegetable dishes and pies.

    Reducing Insects

    • When planted near eggplants, tomatoes and potatoes, cilantro reduces populations of the Colorado potato beetle, aphids, carrot rust fly and spider mites.

    Improving Vegetable Growth

    • Cilantro enhances the growth of vegetables like chervil, spinach and asparagus when planted near them in your garden.

    Improving Cilantro Growth

    • If you want to help your cilantro grow better, plant near it vegetables and herbs like beans, peas and anise.

    Companion Planting

    • Overall, companion planting is more folklore than scientifically proven, but the ideas behind it exist in many cultures. Plus, following it can add color to your garden while repelling unwanted insects.
