Place a large pot on a level area of ground. Due to the height of the Timothy grass, it’s best to use a 24-inch diameter or larger plant pot. Make sure the bottom of the pot contains holes for drainage.
Fill the pot with a bagged potting soil mix until it reaches 1 to 2 inches from the top rim of the pot. Add in a slow-release, high-nitrogen fertilizer to the pot, using the amount indicated on the package instructions. Mix the fertilizer into the soil using a trowel or small shovel.
Water the soil in the pot using a garden hose until it is completely damp all the way to the bottom and water seeps out of the drainage holes.
Sow the Timothy grass seeds on top of the soil by sprinkling them over the surface, spacing them at approximately 1 inch distances.
Apply another 1/4 inch of soil on top of the seeds, just to cover them. Pat the top of the soil lightly with your hand and then lightly water the top of the soil again to dampen the new soil and the seeds.
Place the plant pot in an area that receives full, direct sunlight for at least 6 hours per day.
Water the soil as needed to prevent it from drying out. The seeds will germinate in approximately seven to 14 days.
