Cut the grass using a lawn mower. This cuts the grass quite short and keeps it all together. This length of grass is useful for small animal bedding and food.
Chop longer grass using a weed whacker. These string trimmers cut longer grass at a greater length. Collect the grass using a garden rake or a leaf vacuum. Longer hay can be used as compost, mulch and bedding for larger animals.
Slice the grass using manual lawn trimming implements. Garden shears and other scissor-based tools are useful as the length of the grass can be regulated, but are much harder work.
