How Should I Cut Miscanthus?

Miscanthus is the name given to a family of tall-growing ornamental grasses. All of the grasses in this family require heavy pruning during the dormant stage of its seasonal cycle to keep it under control and looking good. Pruning should be done in early to late winter in order to minimize damage to new growth, if there is any to be had.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Loop your twine or binding material around the circumference of the plant.

    • 2

Pull the material tight so that the Miscanthus grass is bound up in a bale-like form. This will make it easier for you to cut through the grass.

    • 3

Cut the entire grass bale off between 6 and 10 inches from the ground with your pruning shears. Discard the clippings once you have cut all the way through.
