Instructions

    • 1

Select a grass seed that is suited particularly well for your climate and the conditions of your yard. For example, if your yard is mainly in the shade throughout the day, purchase a grass seed that is tolerant to low levels of sunlight.

    • 2

Check for the broadcast spreader settings on the bag of grass seed that you purchase. Set the dial setting on your broadcast spreader to the specifications on the bag.

    • 3

Pour the grass seed into the broadcast spreader.

    • 4

Move the spreader approximately 3 feet away from one corner of the area that you want to seed.

    • 5

Grasp the two handles of the drop spreader, keep it level, then engage the spreader and begin walking with an even pace down the length of the lawn. Be sure to keep approximately 3 feet away from the edges so that the seed is not thrown out of your intended planting area.

    • 6

Walk around the perimeter of the space you are seeding with the spreader, then begin making parallel passes approximately 3 feet apart until the entire area is evenly covered with the seed.
