Wait at least two to three weeks after installing the new turf and then grasp the blades in one corner of the lawn with your hand. Lift up gently to see if the turf lifts up at all. If even minor lifting occurs, wait an additional week to mow. If the turf feels firm with no movement, it is safe to mow.
Wait until the turf blades grow to a height twice as high as you want it after mowing. This height is only for the first mowing after installation.
Wait until a dry day and do not water the new turf for 24 hours prior to mowing, since moist ground allows the roots to pull free.
Set the blade on the mower to cut off only one-third of the blade height and then push the mower over the turf to mow it.
Wait two days and mow the new turf again by lowering the mower blade to the optimal height of the grass. The optimal height varies by species, but should not be lower than 1 inch.
Continue mowing the turf throughout the season as needed whenever the blades reach 1 1/2 times the desired mowing height.
