Is It Good to Let Grass Go to Seed?

"Shabby chic" may be a comforting style of dress or home decoration, but it is not a good idea to let your yard effect the same untidy, casual appearance. Maintaining a seed-free lawn has several advantages. Even if you are coming to this advice late in the game, the health of your grass is not beyond hope.
  1. Diversion of Energy

    • It takes a lot of energy for a plant to produce flowers and seeds, energy that may be better spent on producing healthy foliage. This is the case with grass, as the lush green blades are what make up an enviable lawn.

    Untidy Appearance

    • No one wants to live in a spot where residents seemingly neglect their property. Keeping your lawn tidy means doing your part to keep the bar high for the whole neighborhood.

    Encouragement of Weeds

    • While your grass is going to seed, weeds are doing the same among those blades. When weeds go to seed, they spread elsewhere in your yard and throughout your area.

    Damage Control

    • If your lawn has already gone to seed, all is not lost. Avoid shocking it by trimming it down to a 3-inch length in stages, then maintain that length for the remainder of the season.
