Lime Green Grasses for Landscaping

Ornamental grass, available in a wide assortment of textures, shapes and colors, can create a head-turning, beautifully landscaped yard when used properly. Lime green grasses for landscaping can enhance the landscape and create a diverse background for the rest of the yard. Ornamental grasses are also ideal as border plants or ground covers and will grow easily in a container or when planted in the ground.
  1. Mountain Oats

    • Mountain oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) feature vase-shaped foliage and a bold, lime-green color. This grass grows in clumps and may grow 2 to 3 feet in height. This clumping grass may eventually require digging up and division into smaller sections to be replanted.

    Autumn Moor Grass

    • Autumn moor grass (Sesleria autumnalis) will grow well underneath trees and shrubs provided that the soil remains moist. This grass will grow in full sun or tolerate areas that offer partial shade and sunshine. Autumn moor grass tolerates cold weather and drought conditions. With a height of 15 to 20 inches at maturity, this grass features lime green foliage that will develop flowers during the fall months. The flowers resemble purple and black spikes.

    Northern Sea Oats

    • Northern sea oats (haqsmanthium latifolium) feature a bright, lime-green color. It prefers areas of full sun, and tolerates heat and drought very well. In the fall, the color contrast features lime-green blades with brown tips, making northern sea oats an ornamental grass that will provide pleasing aesthetics year-round.

    Japanese Silver Grass

    • Japanese silver grass (Hakonechloa macra) features bright green, flowing foliage and small, subtle flowers. These flowers, not very showy, usually appear in early summer during June. This Japanese native prefers areas of partial to full shade and will thrive in cool, well-drained soil. In the fall, the foliage turns to a beautiful copper orange color.
