How to Grow Grass Indoors in Containers

Grass in your home can serve a few different functions, depending on with whom you share your home. A furry friend in your house will benefit from being able to munch on fresh grass in the middle of winter. Even if you live alone or only with fellow humans, growing grass in containers is a simple way to bring a little bit of spring into your home all year long.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local plant nursery to purchase grass seeds and a container with drainage holes. Opt for a shady grass type if you don't have a lot of sunlight in your home or if you want the grass to flourish all winter.

    • 2

Add about 1 inch of small gravel to the base of your grass container.

    • 3

Pour in a few inches of soil. Add the grass seeds. A large handful should suffice.

    • 4

Spread out the seeds and press them gently into the dirt.

    • 5

Fill a spray bottle with water and use it to saturate the grass seeds and the soil.

    • 6

Continue watering the grass seeds with your spray bottle every other day until they start to sprout and are about an inch high. Then, switch to watering every three or four days.
