The Leaf Blower Will Not Throttle Up

Leaf blowers run on a simple two-stroke engine. The engine has a set of screws on the carburetor that adjust the fuel mixture when the engine is running. Throttle issues often occur when the screws on the carburetor are not aligned correctly. A bad fuel mixture will cause stalling during idle, or performance issues when the engine attempts to increase the throttle power. Regular adjustment of the throttle screws will keep the engine performing at top efficiency.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the idle screw, which is usually located between the air filter and the engine body. Idle is often marked "I" or "L."

    • 2

Turn the idle screw clockwise until the screw will not turn any longer. Turn the screw counterclockwise one turn.

    • 3

Start the engine while holding down the throttle button. Let go once the engine has run for a few seconds. Turn the idle screw a quarter-turn if the engine cuts out immediately after letting go. Continue making quarter-turns until the engine runs smoothly at idle.

    • 4

Turn the "H" screw on the carburetor counterclockwise to increase the throttle if the engine will not throttle up one quarter-turn at a time.
