Select a glaze coloring that you would like to use for your bonsai pot. If you already like the color of your pot then choose a clear glaze. You can also use different colors to create different designs on your bonsai pot if desired. Read the label on the glaze container to ensure it is appropriate for brush application. Some glazes are for dipping, which usually applies only a thin layer of glaze. A brushed glaze applies a thicker, more smooth-looking glaze. Dipping glazes may leave behind streak marks or drips once the glaze dries.
Lay newspaper down to protect the area in which you are glazing the pot.
Select a brush appropriate in size to your bonsai pot. If you have a large pot, select a wider paintbrush, and for a smaller pot, select a thinner brush. You can visit an art store for brushes that are specific to glazing pottery if you prefer, but most paintbrushes will work.
Wash your bonsai pot with dish soap and water and then dry it with a lint-free towel.
Stir the glaze with a paint stirrer or your paintbrush while wearing rubber gloves.
Dip your paintbrush into the glaze and begin to paint your bonsai pot.
Paint the interior and exterior of the bonsai pot.
Allow the glaze to air-dry several hours. You may need to apply a second coat or do a few touch-ups once the glaze is dry if you notice that you missed any areas.
